Q:8 How did what you read today make you feel? Why?
It made me feel thankful for my life and parents. The main character Luke can't do any activity involving competeiveness like playing card, tag, tv, and baseball. For his free time he either does chores or does poetry.
Q:20 What in the book upsets you or bothers you? Why?
It upsets me that Luke cant play baseball because of his fathers reliogn. He ends up choosing to go against his Fathers wishes but I think he shouldnt have to. It amazes me how times have changed and now we can choose to do almost anything without anyone telling us we cant. However what I cant image is that there are still restrictions like Luke has in several 3rd world countries.
Q:13 If you could change one thing in the book, what would it be? Why would you change it?
Yes i would read another book. I really like this authors ideas and stories. I find them interesting and easy to relate to and when I finish this book look forward to reading another one.
Q:12 What do you think is the theme (author’s message) in this book?
I think the message is never let anyone stop you from doing something you love. In this story Luke (the main character) wants to play baseball because he was given a godly gift of an amazing left arm. However his Father believes it is the devil arm and should never be used especially in a competitive activity that he shouldnt have been playing anyways.

IR #2
Q:2In the book the main problem is Luke wants to play ball with his left arm but he doesn't want to go against his Father's word because the left arm is the devil's arm. That relates to me because it's like me wanting to do something so bad and someone just telling me that you can't do it. The controversy is if you go againt what that person says there could be punishment. However, in the end, you are doind what you love to do. For example, I go running at night with my brother but my mom does not like it when we are running at night.
Q:3 This book makes me wonder about what it would be like to be in the main character's shoes. He has a very strict Father who is the preacher of the church. He does not allow TV, sports, competitive game. I tried to imagine what it would be like to be in his situation. I would problably disobey my Father alot.
Q:5 I like Luke the main character the most. And I like the problem the author set up with the left handedness represneting the devil's arm. I thought Luke's attitude in the book fit the character very well and it made it enjoyable to read. I also like how he interacts with other people that makes thie story funny.
Q:7 The author creates suspense by convincing you that Luke, the main character, is going to play baseball. But then Luke changes his mind and decides not to play baseball and then changes it back again to play. An example, while at church one Sunday, his Father gave him a speech on how he should not disobey Jesus Christ and follow the devil- forbidding the devil's arm. At that point Luke thought, that his Father knew he had beenplaying baseball. Another example, a girl he really likes was really into baseball and conviced him by using her temptations to play again.

Q1: What do the rabbits symbolize in the story?
the rabits symbolize a dream or a goal. For Lennie his dream is to tend the rabbits at his and George's farm. For me my dream or goal is to be a dr so I need to work my hardest through school in order to obtain this goal. Everyone has a common goal or dream whether it be tending rabbits at a farm, being a fireman, or even the next president of the United States of America.
Q2: Choose a character in the novel (other than Curley's wife) and discuss what they represent. Use details about the character to support your answer.
Crooks is a mistreated black crippled. I think Crooks represents how black people were mistreated in that time period. He also is a big part in one of the main themes to the book which is lonelyness. He describes how if he just had one person that he could talk, didnt even care if he was listening, just the comfort of someone being there but just because he is a colored man. He is forced to live in a room by himself and is treated lower then dirt.
Q3: Describe your reactions to Lennie killing Curley's wife. What do you think will happen to Lennie now?
When I read that Lennie killed Curley's wife I could not believe it. That was the last thing I had expected to happen. I thought Curley was going to come in and get into another fight with Lennie or something. I cant imagen whats going to happen next because I never imagened Lennie would kill Curley's wife. But if I had to guess Lennie is going to run away and George is going to stay get the cash and then find Lennie and live on the fatta the land.
Q4: Discuss Curley's wife and what she represents in the novel.
I think Curleys wife represents a person who has missed there dream or goal in life. On the outside she seems like she has nothing better to do but cause trouble but once you get to know her she is actually a depressed person who feels like she missed out in life. And now she is dead which I still cant believe.

Lennie's percpective,
Day102: George wont let me keep the mouse.Sometimes he can be so mean but I dont mind because I know he means no harm. But it still aint very nice he threw that mouse in the river. I mean I am kinda plaintive. He said it smelled but I aint think it smelled that bad. It was kinda like a stinky sock you know it stinks but you still wear it. Oh boy I cant wait for thoose beans George is cooking, still wish I had some ketchup though.
Day103: We arrived at the new job... and I hate it. I want to leave now. The bosses son aint no good person he has a problem with me and made some derogatory statements, he is so pugnacious but I aint done nothing to him! Im scarred I need something soft I wish I had that mouse. Oh wait its time to go work this is a chance to make George happy. And maybe I will find another mouse.
Day104: Oh my god George says I can have one of Slim's puppies. I am recumbent position outside in the dirt. I cant wait to rub my fingers through his soft fur! And he wont smell like stinky socks because I will clean him so George wont through him in a river. Or drown him like Slim did with some of his puppies. Oh boy I am so excited George said I couldn't take him up stairs but maybe I could sneak him up...

Q1: Friends are importent you can learn alot from friends. One saying a like is... friends trust you because they want to, family trusts you because they have too. Also friends can change the way you behave and think about things. Without friends you are very limited on the way you look at the world. And having friends is just flat out fun.
Q2: A good friend is with you through the good and the bad. A good friend wouldnt stop talking to you just because you got into a disagreement. A good friend knows a side of you no one else does. A good friend doesnt just talk to you but also listens to you. A good friend you can trust.
Q3: One of my big dreams is to travel the countries and find one person who inspires me (who also needs help) and then to do whatever I can to make a difference in that persons life. Then I would simply move on to the next country. I already know that's probably not going to happen so my realistic dream would be to go to med school and gradute to become a Sports Physician.

favorite book
My favorite book would have to be... the Outsiders. We read that book last year (7th grade) in class and it really connected with me. I really like the plot and the time period it was in. It was in the 60's and it was a constant disagreement between the Greasers and the Socs. I is a sad book but also funny and a great ending.
