IR #3

Q:8 How did what you read today make you feel? Why?
It made me feel thankful for my life and parents. The main character Luke can't do any activity involving competeiveness like playing card, tag, tv, and baseball. For his free time he either does chores or does poetry.

Q:20 What in the book upsets you or bothers you? Why?
It upsets me that Luke cant play baseball because of his fathers reliogn. He ends up choosing to go against his Fathers wishes but I think he shouldnt have to. It amazes me how times have changed and now we can choose to do almost anything without anyone telling us we cant. However what I cant image is that there are still restrictions like Luke has in several 3rd world countries.

Q:13 If you could change one thing in the book, what would it be? Why would you change it?
Yes i would read another book. I really like this authors ideas and stories. I find them interesting and easy to relate to and when I finish this book look forward to reading another one.

Q:12 What do you think is the theme (author’s message) in this book?
I think the message is never let anyone stop you from doing something you love. In this story Luke (the main character) wants to play baseball because he was given a godly gift of an amazing left arm. However his Father believes it is the devil arm and should never be used especially in a competitive activity that he shouldnt have been playing anyways.

IR #2

Q:2In the book the main problem is Luke wants to play ball with his left arm but he doesn't want to go against his Father's word because the left arm is the devil's arm. That relates to me because it's like me wanting to do something so bad and someone just telling me that you can't do it. The controversy is if you go againt what that person says there could be punishment. However, in the end, you are doind what you love to do. For example, I go running at night with my brother but my mom does not like it when we are running at night.

Q:3 This book makes me wonder about what it would be like to be in the main character's shoes. He has a very strict Father who is the preacher of the church. He does not allow TV, sports, competitive game. I tried to imagine what it would be like to be in his situation. I would problably disobey my Father alot.

Q:5 I like Luke the main character the most. And I like the problem the author set up with the left handedness represneting the devil's arm. I thought Luke's attitude in the book fit the character very well and it made it enjoyable to read. I also like how he interacts with other people that makes thie story funny.

Q:7 The author creates suspense by convincing you that Luke, the main character, is going to play baseball. But then Luke changes his mind and decides not to play baseball and then changes it back again to play. An example, while at church one Sunday, his Father gave him a speech on how he should not disobey Jesus Christ and follow the devil- forbidding the devil's arm. At that point Luke thought, that his Father knew he had beenplaying baseball. Another example, a girl he really likes was really into baseball and conviced him by using her temptations to play again.
